(eds); Depok, Universitas Indonesia, 2001; p 120-125 Abstract: As part of a study on Indonesian natural products for their sustainable utilization and conservation, various natural products from forest, medicinal plants and microbes have been evaluated for their bioactivity. Hundreds of plant and microbe samples have been screened for antioxidative, antimicrobial and anticancer (cytotoxic) activities. A number of known and novel compounds have been isolated and their structure elucidated. Some were found to be potential drug candidates. Problems are faced on the difficulties in further developing the potential active principles, as phytopharmaceuticals and modern drug should be backed up by further scientific studies.
